What is your favourite winery?

This is the question most asked of us by our guests – other than, can we keep the tour going?!

The answer of course is it depends.

 So many choices!

There are so many wineries in Prince Edward County, each with their unique location, size, vibe, wines, service, outdoor and indoor space, food offerings, price points and whether they have dogs (or other animals).

It’s not just about the wine

Notice that wine wasn’t the first thing we listed? One thing we quickly learned when first doing tours was that everyone’s taste for wine is different. We’d recommend wineries where we really like the wine and some guests wouldn’t be that enthusiastic. Alternatively, guests would love a tasting stop where we thought the wine was just OK.

It comes down to a couple of things. Everyone’s taste for wine is different. And it’s not just about the wine, it’s about the whole experience. As with wine, people enjoy different experiences too.

 Lots to consider

So, our own answers about which is our favourite winery isn’t simple. It depends on whether we are looking for red or white, what the weather is like and can we be comfortable there (option for shade when sunny, shelter if it’s a rainy day etc.), are we looking for lunch or snacks while enjoying the wine, has service been good there recently, what’s the view like, are there dogs to hang with, games to play, how many people are in our group and are they able to easily accommodate us and so on and so on.

What if we’re not in the mood for wine?

And, what if we aren’t in the mood for wine – what about beer, cider, spirits or mocktails? The options grow even larger.

Every tour keeps us on our toes

The same thinking goes into our recommendations for each tour. Based on input from our guests prior to the tour, we prepare a printed list/description of places to go. Then, during the tour, as we get to know everyone better and their feedback from initial stops, we will highlight some on the list that might appeal the most or even add some other stops. It keeps us on our toes!
